Auld Worthies - No:1 - Tommy Boatle

There's no enuff reminiscin gaun oan so am goin to start off this occasional series on famous characters from oor yesteryear with the legendary - Tommy Boatle.

Aw I can remember is TB walkin aboot Gpans and the Toon wi cairrier bags full i boatles, whether they be milk, Barrs, Garvies, Hendrys or Alpine versions. U could hear him coming fur miles in wi that characteristic 'chinking' together noise. I have to admit that oan a personal level, I used tae shite it fae him, as for years I thot he stayed in the attic i the BU Club and only came oot it night. He used to wear the same 'off-white' shirt and blue jaiket -i kin still picture it noo.

Legend has it when pair Tommy passed away, he was buried in a large glass bottled-shaped coafin which was dropped into the Forth by the Dredger.

But the memory of Tommy Boatle lives oan forever etched in the hearts and minds of the Boys from Bo'ness.

Embdy else like to add to this?

Perhaps u have memories of another famous character from oor past? Let us aw hear aboot it.
