Life's a Gas

Ah spent an interstin efternin wi Boarastiness gas and leccy sales legends Drew D n Brandon the day.
The discussion subjects included the Combat Methodology i the Ancient Greeks, wi specific reference ti Achilles n Hector during the Trojan battles. Brandon reckoned the Achilles story is narrated bi Homer wis allegorical - "ye defeat yin man, ye defeat a hale airmy". Paradoxically, Drew oan the ithir hand felt Achilles wis an owerblawn myth, n thit ultimately history hus remembered Hector better, yasein the simple test i "How miny folk de ye ken called Achilles?". It wis also felt thit hud Achilles yased the melee frontal assault bi leapin inty the air, is portrayed bi yon Brad Pitt in the film "Troy", Drew wid still huv hud time ti cut his baws aff, n stab hum in the ankles.
This aw happened in the Cairriers.

Did ye cover the conflicting aspects i Hector's character? How he shows his boattil bi stying ootside the walls i Troy when Achilles an his pals are giein them whit fur, ti try and take ere the toon and capture Helen, despite his (Hector) faither tellin him tae no be a daft laddie and get back in the hoose ffs. Then, when Achilles an Hector come face ti face, Hector seems tae lose said boatil and dae a runner, hopin that Achilles wull get peched oot, but of coarse he disny and Achilles catches him, then Hector finds his boatil again, decides tae stand and fight an gets a doin fur his bother, Achiiles goin well over the score wi the laldy, even after Hector is deid. This fi a boay whas mither had dressed him up as a lassie when he wiz a bairn, a bit like Andrew fi Pennelton Place, him whas faither wiz a guid runner. An Achilles wiz only there cause his drinkin neebor Paroclus, goat a similar doin fae the Hector (even tho Calchas had telt him as a laddie thit Troy widny be taen without his help, but who believes whit auld wimmen shout at ye fi windaes when yer 9, eh?)and Hector hud nicked Pat's claes (whit had yince been Achilles).
Mibbe Homer couldny make his mind up about whit kind i person Hector wiz. He clearly didny create a character path afore startin the Iliad, like they tell folk to dae at the Bo'ness writers club (probably).

There wiz an Achilles Hamilton fae Deanfield. Goat marridoanti a lassie cried Helen tae. She wizny fi Bo'ness

The gyst ay hings is jist that Achilles McPherson and Hector Stewart fought - side by side, and against each other - at Culloden; McPherson pure kicked eys erse. The Walkers and the Donnellys are no so evident in history, except thit Burns wrote several poems on how UNhandsome the Donnellys were (and, obviously, are). Burns was also quoted as sayin, "Jesus Christ - thon Donnellys are thick: thi dinnae even understand slow motion film . . . "
